Friday Night.......Thoughts

It ...is......hot in this small southern......college town.

My thoughts....on a blazing  summer night:

The Atlanta Braves.......are playing ...good baseball.

The Atlanta traffic....is ......awful......around 8am.

My family....is still....and will always be the .....best.

My daughter.......is more beautiful.......than ever.

My brother.........still works.......way too many hours.

My sister........is still ...the "rock" ......of the family.

5 things.......I think ...I think:

Lay off Obama......For he is our ....president.

Lay off Tiger......For he is......human.

I still like....HBO's..." Curb your Enthusiasm".

I am so glad.......the NFL is alive and well.

I think.....the NBA.........is toast.

Time to Hire a Limo Driver

Sometimes you have to face the facts......

Jalen Rose...and cars....don't  mix.

Give it up Mr. Rose:

Jalen Rose BUSTED for Speeding after DUI Sentence

0728-jalen-rose-bn
Jalen Rose just can't seem to get a break -- the former NBA star was slapped with a speeding ticket in Michigan last night ... the same day he was sentenced to 20 days in jail for his March drunk driving crash.

Rose was popped shortly before 9pm in the Detroit suburb of Clawson -- for going 46 mph in a 25 mph zone.

The 38-year-old pled guilty to the drunk driving incident back in May -- and issued an apology statement for his behavior.

Nothing is Easy.....For these Braves

19 innings.....7 hour games...

The 2011 version of the Atlanta Braves......works on ones nerves.

Nothing comes easy.

Braves Beat Pirates After Controversial Call At The Plate (VIDEO)

Braves Pirates
AP/The Huffington Post Posted: 7/27/11 08:33 AM ET

ATLANTA (Associated Press) — Julio Lugo scored from third base on a contested play at the plate, giving the Atlanta Braves a 4-3 win in 19 innings over the Pittsburgh Pirates early Wednesday morning.

The game, which ended at 1:50 2 a.m., was the longest in Turner Field history and matched the longest in the major leagues this season. At 6 hours, 39 minutes, it was the longest by time for both teams.

Lugo took on Scott Proctor's grounder to third baseman Pedro Alvarez, whose throw to catcher Michael McKenry easily beat Lugo to the plate.

Lugo tried to avoid McKenry's tag with a pop-up slide. Replays indicated McKenry made the tag, but home plate umpire Jerry Meals called Lugo safe.

Pirates manager Clint Hurdle argued the call vigorously, following Meals off the field as the Braves celebrated.

Wright.......was.....Wronged....

Lorenzen Wright .....was wronged.....

Leave it to TMZ.com to get to the bottom of this fiasco:

Gruesome Details In Death of NBA Player

The family of murdered NBA star Lorenzen Wright is suing officials in Germantown, TN -- claiming it wouldn't have taken police 9 days to find his corpse if cops would simply have had Internet access.

0721_lorenzen_wright_BN2

Wright was shot and killed in July 2010. A witness called 911 during the shooting ... but the caller never disclosed Wright's location. Still, Wright's family believes cops should have tracked the origin of the call with a common Internet program ... which would have allowed them to quickly locate Wright and possibly save his life.

Instead, it took cops 9 days to find Wright's body -- and by that time, the family claims ... "the exposure to the elements including substantial rain, extreme heat, indigenous animals and insects had reduced the remains from roughly 225 lbs to 57 lbs."

So why didn't the cops have Internet access???? Wright's family claims officials had BLOCKED the police from using online programs because certain officers had been abusing their web access.

Wright's family is devastated -- and wants the city to fork over more than $2 million in damages.

Wright was 34 years old at the time of his death. So far, no arrests have been made in connection with the shooting.

Yahoo and company have  way too much time on their hands....and too little thoughts in their brains.

We disagree with over half of their selections.....

What about you?

Here's their  list:

Atlanta's 10 most powerful people

Atlanta's 10 most powerful and influential people

By Brian C. Hopkins | Yahoo! Contributor Network – Thu, Jul 14, 2011
COMMENTARY | Atlanta is considered to be the unofficial capital of the southeastern United States. Atlanta is also a city with considerable influence on politics, religion, and entertainment. So, to be one of the most powerful people in Atlanta means that you're also one of the most powerful people in the world, but what is power? For the purposes of this ranking, we looked at political influence, social status, and last, but certainly not least, wealth. After all, it was Tony Montana in "Scarface" who said, "In this country, you gotta make the money first. Then, when you get the money, you get the power." With that said, here is a listing of Atlanta's 10 most powerful people.

10. Kasim Reed - Mayor of Atlanta
Unlike in some U.S. cities, in Atlanta the mayor actually does have considerable power and political influence. As a former two-term member as a state representative and former vice chairman of the Senate Democratic Caucus, Mayor Reed has made quite a few powerful and influential friends during his ride to the city's most prestigious office.

9. Monica Pearson - News anchor WSB-TV
For over 35 years, Monica Pearson has been the anchor for one of Atlanta's largest networks. Pearson has received various awards for her reporting and was not only first African-American woman to be named an anchor in Atlanta, but is also the longest running anchor in Atlanta history. Pearson's involvement with various business leaders, political groups, and religious leaders in Atlanta make her well-deserving of the title of one of Atlanta's most powerful.

8. Andrew Young - Former Atlanta mayor, congressman, and U.S. ambassador to the United Nations
Andrew Young has led a movie-script life. He was an involved activist and confidant of Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. He is a former U.S. congressman and was appointed as ambassador to the U.N. by President Jimmy Carter and also held the office of mayor in Atlanta. Young was a driving force behind getting the 1996 Olympic Games to come to Atlanta and is credited with spearheading Atlanta's corporate appeal to business around the world.

7. Clark Howard - Consumer advocate
When millions of people around the world watch television, listen to radio, or search the Internet to hear what you say is or isn't a good deal, you've got true power. Clark Howard is one of the most widely used names not only in Atlanta, but also around the country. When you're the world's king of saving money and the world's in an economic spiral, you're going to wield a mighty sword in the world of influence.

6. Elton John - Entertainer and philanthropist
While his main home is abroad, Elton John's primary U.S. residence is just minutes from downtown Atlanta. In a career that has spanned over four decades, Elton John has won almost every major music award thinkable. He is one of the most successful activists and philanthropists in the world and is a frequent name mentioned when listing the world's most rich and powerful entertainers.

5. Nathan Deal - Governor and former U.S. congressman
Being the governor of the state of Georgia immediately qualifies you for the list of Atlanta's most powerful people. Nathan Deal's congressional ties and association with former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich give Georgia's top official a firm position on the list of Atlanta's most powerful.
4. Tyler Perry - Actor, writer, and producer
Perry has built one of the most successful movie and television production companies in the world. He exhibits considerable influence among Atlanta's African-American community and is widely respected by the city's political and religious leaders, but when you have a direct line to Oprah Winfrey, you're a pretty powerful guy.

3. Ted Turner - Media mogul
Had this article been written 15 years ago, Ted Turner would be the undisputed most powerful man in Atlanta. Ted Turner is the former owner of the Atlanta Braves, the founder of both TBS and CNN, and one of the largest individual land owners in the U.S. Although Turner is in the spotlight far less than he used to be, his estimated net worth is still in the billions.

2. Newt Gingrich - Former congressman and speaker of the House
To have a chance at being elected as the Republican candidate for the 2012 Presidential election, you've got to be a polarizing figure, and Newt Gingrich is exactly that. His congressional career spans over 30 years, and he has worked closely with several presidents (both Republican and Democrat). Gingrich's ties with some of the political and business worlds' most powerful and influential make him just that.

1. Arthur Blank - Businessman
Sometimes popularity can give you a power that even money can't buy. Arthur Blank has endeared himself with the city and thusly become the most powerful man in Atlanta. The co-founder of Home Depot purchased the Atlanta Falcons and the Georgia Force. Since acquiring the Falcons, he has initiated the most successful run in the team's history. In addition to this, his various charitable contributions and warm personality have captivated the Atlanta public.

Brian Hopkins has been involved with the city of Atlanta's business and political structure for over 20 years. He has covered various local political issues as an independent writer during that time. He currently serves as a consumer advocate, and he is the founder of 4TheConsumer.com.

From Business Insider:

Clemens Prosecutors Strike Out

The perjury case against pitcher Roger Clemens collapsed because of government prosecutors' stupidity, Buzz Bissinger says—and it was a travesty to begin with.

In a federal courtroom in Washington on Thursday, a judge openly exposed the farce that has been the criminal case against Roger Clemens since he was first indicted. Just like Barry Bonds, this has been not a prosecution but a persecution, not a pursuit of justice but a dog-and-pony show of self-interest and self-aggrandizement.

What can we say?   Love & Marriage?

A thin line between love and hate?

Ouch?

From BBC News:

California woman cuts off husband's penis

Catherine Kieu Becker (Image: Garden Grove Police Dept) Catherine Kieu Becker allegedly laced her husband's dinner with a drug

A US woman drugged her estranged husband, tied him to a bed and cut off his penis, police in California say.

The woman then threw the penis into the waste disposal and told police who attended the incident in Garden Grove, near Los Angeles: "He deserved it."

Catherine Kieu Becker, 48, has been charged with poisoning and assault with a deadly weapon.

The 51-year-old victim, who has not been named, is in a serious condition following surgery.

Lt Jeff Nightengale, of Garden Grove police, said the two are going through a divorce.

He said the woman had drugged the man's dinner on Monday night.

"He believed something was wrong with his food," he said.

"The victim went to lie down and he woke up tied to the bed with his wife tugging his clothes off.

"The female cut off his penis with a knife... tossed the penis in the garbage disposal and turned the disposal to the 'on' position.

"The suspect called 911 and told responding officers that he 'deserved it'."

He added: "Officers arrived and located a male victim tied to the bed and bleeding from his groin area."

Ms Becker was arrested on suspicion of aggravated mayhem, false imprisonment, assault with a deadly weapon, administering a drug with intent to commit a felony, poisoning and spousal abuse.

She is due to appear in court on Wednesday.

DWB.....or DUI?

Driving While Black.......or  Driving Under the Influence?

From our friends at TMZ.com:

Hines Ward -- star wide receiver for the Pittsburgh Steelers and reigning "Dancing With the Stars" champion -- was arrested this morning for driving under the influence of alcohol ... TMZ has learned.

0709_hines_ward_mug_ex

Ward was popped in Dekalb County, GA and held on $1,000 bond. He posted shortly thereafter and was released.

Story developing ...

Update.....

Hines Ward -- I Didn't Drive Drunk!

Hines Ward is sorry he got popped for DUI early this morning ... but he says when all the facts come out, they'll show he didn't drive while drunk.

0709_hines_ward_EX_01
Ward's manager, Andrew Ree, tells TMZ, "He cooperated fully with the police and truthfully answered all of their questions. We are currently in the process of ascertaining all the facts. From our preliminary investigation we can tell you that we are confident that the facts will show that Hines was NOT impaired by alcohol while driving.

He went on to say, "However, Hines is deeply saddened by this incident and apologizes to his fans and the Steelers organization for this distraction."
